Brazil Prepares to Launch Regulated Online Gambling Market
Brazil is gearing up for the official launch of its regulated online gambling market on January 1, 2025. The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) recently granted 71 federal licenses to operators, marking a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward a safer and more organized gaming environment. Regis Dudena, head of SPA, announced during a December 10 meeting that these operators met most of the the Ministry of Finance’s stringent requirements. Out of 144 applications only 71 were approved, demonstrating the SPA’s commitment to ensuring only responsible operators enter the market.
To qualify, operators needed to comply with strict standards, including a reliable payment processing systems, anti-money laundering protocols, and responsible gaming measures to name a few. Each license, valid for five years, comes with a price tag of R$30 million. However, the industry may face additional changes, as new gambling-related taxes are currently under review by the Brazilian Senate. These developments highlight Brazil’s efforts to create a regulated online gambling market that not only prioritizes player safety but also contributes to the country’s economy.
