Thailand FPO concludes public hearings on proposed entertainment complex bill
The public hearing on the proposed casino-entertainment complex bill has concluded, with feedback set to be presented to the cabinet, as announced by the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO). The FPO, along with the Digital Government Development Agency, gathered opinions from the public through their websites from August 2 through 18. The bill aims to establish entertainment complexes where casinos can legally operate, with proponents hopeful that this could significantly give a boost to the tourism industry.
The policy will be overseen by a committee chaired by the prime minister. Companies wishing to run such complexes must be limited or public limited companies registered in Thailand with a minimum capital of 10 billion baht. Some participants also suggested renaming the bill to the "Integrated Resort Bill," inspired by Singapore, to present a more positive image.
Views on license durations varied, ranging from 10 to 60 years. Other suggestions included offering VAT exemptions for operators and making winnings tax-free, as well as reducing entrance fees for locals from 5,000 baht to 1,000-2,000 baht for the first decade.
